What You Should Know About A Prolapsed Disc

A prolapsed disc is a spinal disc in which the contents that are usually jelly like have bulged or have escaped their normal boundaries and this causes the disc to encroach on the neighboring nerves and ligaments. It is highly likely that pain and inflammation will ensue due the pressure that is being placed on these structures. Even though a herniated prolapsed disc does not always cause problems, it has been known to cause bothersome symptoms such as tingling or numbness in the feet as well as pain.

A prolapsed disc is more often than not the result of poor body mechanics and bad posture as you perform daily activities like lifting and bending. It can also occur as a result of injuries during games, especially those that involve jumping, twisting and running or those sports that demand extreme flexibility like gymnastics. Even though the spine is intracately constructed, it is vulnerable to myriad disorders. Some of these disorders are usually as a result of the process of ageing while others are caused by conditions like tumors, infections as well as pregnancy.

Another cause of this particular condition is due to degenerative changes as a person grows old. As you age, the spinal discs gradually dehydrate and become smaller and this affects their function which is to act as shock absorbers. This condition is usually diagnosed with the assistance of techniques like magnetic resonance imaging.

Obesity has also been known to cause the displacement of these spinal discs due to the intense pressure that is being placed on the spine. In addition to that, lack of physical activities leads to weak back muscles which cannot support the spine properly thus putting the spine at risk of prolapsed disc injuries.

It is highly suggested that you undertake non-invasive treatments which include the use of pain relievers and learning the proper lifting and bending techniques. It is essential that you take extra care of your back so as to limit the tear and wear that occurs with time. Surgery should only be taken into consideration if all the other methods fail to produce the desired results.

If you are suffering from a prolapsed disc, you should consider getting a copy of the 7 Day Back Pain Cure by Jesse Cannone at The Healthy Back Institute. It will provide you with a variety of prolapsed disc repair exercises that will start strengthening your back and fixing your disc prolapse condition.
